BMW in Greer, SC is expanding their BMW Scholars program doubling
available seats to 200. The program offers apprentice training for advanced
manufacturing. It consists of full time classes and working 20 to 25 hours per
week at the BMW manufacturing plant. Beginning in
2011, seven years ago, BMW partnered with Spartanburg Community College,
Tri-County Technical College and Greenville Technical College to implement the program. They have added a
partnership with Piedmont Technical College in their current expansion efforts. They focus on combining mechanics,
electrical and robotics training for one person, creating the ability to hire only one employee with knowledge of all three trades instead of three different employees for individual trades. All graduates from the BMW Scholar Program is offered full time employment
at BMW. Tuition and books are paid for
by BMW and the intern work at BMW is paid. Even healthcare is
provided. Six graduating classes have come
to pass since this program began. More jobs are created regularly while BMW moves forward on explansions for its manufacturing location in Greer, SC.
