The American Nurses Credentialing Center has included Greenville
Memorial Hospital, part of the GHS System, in the ANCC’s Magnet Recognition
Program. The Upstate has two other hospitals that hold this recognition, Greer
Memorial and AnMed Health. Of approximately
6,300 hospitals across the U.S. only 471 hospitals have achieved Magnet
status.
Collaboration across specialties, quality of nursing
leadership and processes for measuring and improving patient care are some of
the evaluating factors. An on-site visit
is also required. The public often seeks
out Magnet hospitals for care. It has
become a gold standard in nursing excellence.
