Super Blue Blood Moon: Lunar Eclipse on January 31st!
January 31st is the big day, and everyone is
talking about the Super Blue Blood Moon.
A lot of names for this event! Since the moon does not orbit around the earth
in an even pattern there is a 14% difference in how bright the moon is. A super moon is identified when the moon is
closest to the Earth and therefore the brightest. A blue moon is when there are two full
moons within one month. During a full
lunar eclipse, the moon turns a reddish-orange color which is how the name blood moon came to be. Of the three
lunar events none are particularly rare independently. Though the last time all
three lunar events were combined was over 150 years ago, in 1866, making this a
once in a lifetime trilogy of events.
When and where is this awesome sight observable? The US Pacific Coast, Alaska, Australia and Eastern Asia will have the best view being able to see it from start to finish. The East coast can view the eclipse, but it will be close to moon set and the lightening sky will impede the full effect from being observed. For those in Eastern Time the eclipse will start at 5:51 am but won’t be very noticeable until about an hour later, at 6:48 am the darker shadow of the Earth will cover the moon giving us that reddish-orange glow. The peak of the eclipse will be at 6:15 am Central time, 6:30 am Mountain time and between 5 and 6:00 am Pacific time. We are excited to be able to witness this grand event!

Southern Spartanburg County Major Development Plans
Walton South Carolina LLC has purchased 500 acres of land near Cedar Springs for $3 million. 57 Acres are within the Spartanburg city limits. The development planned is a mixed-use project. In the early stage of development, the company is looking for a developer to work with on this project. The current plan approximates 22 acres will be set aside for commercial development, as many as 800 single family homes and 300 multi-family homes. The area was selected due to the growing job market and being close to I-85, Siemens, BMW, Michelin and Kohler. Recreation areas, open space, and parks are some of the planned amenities. Swamp Rabbit Trail Extension Underway
GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail continues to extend the trail along Laurens Rd from Pleasantburg Drive to Verdae Boulevard. The trail will go under Pleasantburg and paving should begin this month. Greenville County is overseeing the project.

Three new extensions are under consideration. Laurel Creek Trail will connect Laurens Road to Swamp Rabbit Trail to Pelham Road. It will take 12 months to complete and cost about $85,000. It will eventually reach apartments near Haywood Mall. Another potential trail would connect Cleveland Park to a new bridge over Laurens Road. It would provide multiple ways to access Cleveland Park. The Sliding Rock Mountain Trail is a natural trail next to Nicholtown. The Washington and McDaniel area could gain a new secondary bike route with this trail as well as a new entrance to the Cleveland Zoo. The Swamp Rabbit Trail projects continue to add value to the area and the planned extensions have drawn commercial and residential real estate investors to the Greenville SC area.
